Valencia 1976. Musician from Quart de Poblet (Valencia), founder of the Societat Artistico-Musical “La Unió”.

Leandro studied music, specializing in saxophone at the CEM Torrent, the CSM “Joaquín Rodrigo” of Valencia and the RCSM in Madrid. Later he studied with Andrés Gomis. He also studied jazz and modern harmony with Ramon Cardo and Daniel Flors. Furthermore, he attended several workshops given by prestigious Jazz Masters.

In the 90’s he worked for the Sociedad Musical “La Artística” of Buñol, as saxophone instructor and performer. He took part in the recording of a number of albums. In Buñol he met his beloved wife. Subsequently, he has performed with major ensembles such the Municipal Band of Seville, Madrid Symphony Orchestra (OSM), Spanish National Orchestra (ONE), Bilbao Symphony Orchestra (BOS) or the Berklee Rainbow Big Band (Boston).

Leandro was memeber of the “Jove Jazz Band” conducted by Jesus Santandreu, where he shared the stage with outstanding valencian jazz musicians like Toni Belenguer, Vicent Macián, Felip Santandreu, Voro Garcia, and Latino. He also participated in the project  “New Music for Big Band Vol 2: Valencia in Jazz”. They record an album conducted by Ramon Cardo and Perico Sambeat published by the label Autor (Fundación Autor / SGAE 2005).

As saxophone instructor Leandro has worked in several music schools and conservatories from Valencia and Andalusia. He is member of the Junta de Andalucía’s saxophone professor corps since 2002.

He received grants from AIE (Spanish performers association), the Andalusian government and the Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA), for his studies in this American institution. There, he met inspiring professors like F. Tiberi, D. Govoni, G. Garzone, V. Mendoza, D. Santoro, G. Hopkins and P. Wilson. In August 2010, he was graduated obtaining the Diploma in Performance, Summa Cum Laude. He was also was awarded the Mark Turner Scholarship from the Performance Division.

In 2012, Leandro self-produced his debut album “Leandro Perpiñán Quartet“. The album got a good reception from critics and audiences. That same year his composition “El Cicle de l’Aigua” gets the 2nd place in the Sedajazz composition contest in Valencia. In 2014 his big band arrangement of Perico Sambeat’s “De Camino” got the 3rd prize at the 1st Granada Big Band Arrangements Contest.

Leandro is founding member of Andalucía Big Band, a Jazz orchestra based in Seville. They have collaborated with very fine Jazz players like Ramon Cardo, Ze Eduardo, Bob Sands, Perico Sambeat, Arturo Serra, Chris Kase, Pedro Cortejosa, Ernesto Aurignac and Jesús Santandreu. Furthermore, as leader of his own bands Leandro has played with Arturo Serra, Juan Galiardo, José López, Jo Krause, Javier Galiana, Carlos Bermudo, Javier Delgado, Nacho Megina, Javier Ortí, Voro García, Angel A. Muñoz, J. Serradilla and Carlos Martín among others. Leandro is also a founding member of ASSEJAZZ, the Seville Jazz Association.

In November 2015 he returned to CSM “Manuel Castillo” of Seville, where previously he was classical saxophone instructor from 2003 to 2009, now as Jazz saxophone instructor.

In Spring 2016 he releases his 2nd album “Por Allí Viene Costi”, with a band with very fine Spanish jazzmen. The album is comprised with original tunes inspired by current mainstream Jazz.
